NEURON Cofund2 Project 2025 Joint International Call is Open
The aim of the call is to support multinational, collaborative research projects that will address critical translational and clinical questions aimed at developing knowledge on ‘Pain Neuroscience’ with the potential to improve the lives of people affected by pain, using interdisciplinary approaches.
Research proposals should cover at least one of the following areas:
a) Fundamental research on the pathogenesis, aetiology, prevention, progression and treatment of chronic pain from a neuroscientific perspective.
b) Clinical research aimed at developing new strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, patient classification, treatment and rehabilitation procedures for chronic pain syndromes.
The following research areas are excluded from the scope of this call:
• Research on pain-related topics of neurodegenerative disorders addressed by the EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND).
Only international projects will be funded. Each consortium submitting a proposal must consist of research groups from at least three different countries funded by the organisations specified in the English call text. The number of research groups in a consortium is limited to five. A maximum of two research groups may be from the same country. In the ERA-NETNEURON funding scheme, the number of partners in consortia may be increased to six, including partners from countries that have received less support to date (Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Taiwan and Turkey). Researchers from countries that do not provide funding may also participate in projects, provided they secure their own funding sources and demonstrate their additional contribution to the consortium, without exceeding the above-mentioned number of research groups.
A two-stage international evaluation will be conducted by the ERA-NET NEURON Joint Call Secretariat. In the first stage, full proposals will be requested from successful candidates in the second stage, based on the international external expert evaluation of the pre-proposals received. Applications for pre-proposals opened on 7 January 2025, and the deadline for applications is 6 March 2025 (14:00:00 CET).
Preliminary proposals and full proposals may be prepared jointly by partners, but applications must be submitted by coordinators only using the international ERA-NET NEURON electronic application system. Additionally, researchers applying from Turkey must submit a national application. Applicants must submit their applications electronically signed by selecting ‘NEURON JTC2025 1st Stage’ from the "Multi-Collaborative Support Programmes (Phase 1)" section and submit their applications electronically signed by 13 March 2025 (23:59 CET).
