2221 Visiting or Academic Leave (Sabbatical) Scientist Support Programme 2025 First Term Call Opened

2221 Visiting or Academic Leave (Sabbatical) Scientist Support Programme aims to contribute to our country's scientific ecosystem by encouraging scientists, particularly pioneering Turkish scientists working at universities or research institutions abroad, to come to Turkey. This is achieved by facilitating their participation in research, work in laboratories, develop products, organise conferences/congresses, give seminars, provide part-time education, write joint projects, and carry out all kinds of academic and R&D activities. It also aims to enable visiting scientists to carry out all kinds of academic and R&D activities at universities and institutes in Turkey during their academic leave (sabbatical).

Under the 2221 Programme, visiting/academic leave scientists who have completed their doctorate and are working in a position requiring a doctoral degree abroad (and have been working at a university, research centre or in the private sector for at least 4 years as of the application date) are encouraged to come to Turkey and are supported in carrying out all kinds of academic and R&D activities such as

conducting research,

working in laboratories,

developing products,

Organising conferences/congresses,

Giving seminars,

Providing part-time education,

Writing joint projects

and all kinds of academic and R&D activities.

In addition, scientists who wish to spend their sabbatical in Turkey are also supported under the programme.

Applications must be submitted by the scientist responsible to TÜBİTAK, who is inviting the guest (the inviting scientist may invite more than one guest during the same application period, but a separate application must be submitted for each guest).

Under the programme, guest scientists whose applications are accepted by the TÜBİTAK BİDEB Research Grants and Supports Group Executive Board will receive the following as of 01.01.2024:

One-time travel expenses to and from Turkey

Health insurance of up to 370 TL/month for scientists supported for 3-12 months

The following scholarship amounts based on the duration of their stay in Turkey:

Visiting Scientists: 54,000 TL/month

Academic Leave (Sabbatical) applicants: 60,000 TL/month;

may be provided.
