The aim of the European Excellence Initiative (EEI) call is to strengthen R&D and innovation capacity in higher education institutions and their surrounding ecosystems.

Higher education institutions from at least 3 Member States or Associated Countries must apply, and at least one of these institutions must be from a Widening country, including Turkey. The coordinator of the project must also be from Widening countries. Approximately 20 projects are expected to be supported in the 2023 EEI call.

Application deadline: April 12, 2023

The projects are expected to last 5 years and will be supported with a budget of €2-5 million per project.

The EEI call is one of the Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) calls. In these calls, capacity building activities other than R&D and innovation actions are supported. Specific to the EEI call, 20% of the project budget can be used for R&D and innovation activities.
